I don’t know why the official launch of movie The Social Network in GSC and TGV Malaysia is being postponed to 2nd of December; but I can’t wait so I watch it last Saturday at Cineplex, City Square (Johor Bahru).

And I was completely blown away. Well, Miss Ma’am doesn’t seem to like it since the English is quite heavy with British accent and really fast-paced (and true, Jesse Eisenberg who played as Mark Zuckenberg really brings out the definition of nerd with super-fast computer brain), so she had a tough time trying to understand it.

It might be a bit confusing at first since it involves a lot of flashback story, and the character Mark really is a douche in this movie. Not only that, Sean Parker character (played by Justin Timberlake) is a cunning mischievous bastards up to the point that can make you boil at his character; albeit the no-face-resemblance of the real world Sean Parker.

Justin looks nothing like the real world Sean Parker. He should keep some nappy hair..

The story starts out with Mark Zuckenberg drinking and chatting with her girlfriend, Erica Albright when she break up with him because of his obsessions with the “Final Club” (at this time, Mark talked seriously fast and quite sarcastic; you might be a bit dizzy hearing their arguments).

Devastated by their breakup, Mark went back to his room and started to drink and blog. Saying that he needed to “think of something to make to take my mind of her”, he started developing Facemash.com, a site where people can vote which female picture is hotter. The best thing is, all the pictures for rating are being hacked from Harvard internal system (caution #2: people who are not exposed to hacking methods might get lost again here – I know Ma’am was).

The site was a hit – 22,000 hits in a period of 2 hours after it went up. And that’s how Mark starts making a name, attracted some seniors who wanted him to help developing a social website, and Facebook comes out of betrayal etc.. okay I stop here since it will be a lot of spoiler then

Some of the interesting things that this movie offers:

1. Portray a typical geek settings that everyone who knows Internet can relate to (I know I chuckle when seeing Mark using LiveJournal complete with the p html tag. )
2. Shows how making a big business is not as easy as it looks — there will be challenges, betrayals, a lot of times to sacrifice, a lot of determination, and helps from the right people. Seriously, any Meleis that think headhunter MLM like Ac Mizal “cincin keluli” can make them rich could think twice after watching this movie (kalau boleh fikir laaa kaannn… )
3. Interesting quotes. Really, really interesting and amusing quotes. See IMDB quotes.
4. The movie is really fast-paced and not soapy at all. I was half expecting that the movie will be a boring autobiography/documentary style, and boy I was wrong. It has all moments and feelings captured perfectly.
5. Some of the facts in the movie is real. Some of it is not. It will make you wonder for a lot of things.
6. Interesting facts that you might not know of. Example: I never heard of Sean Parker previously because he’s the business guy in Napster. I know Shawn Fannings though. Other example: do you know the history of Victoria’s Secret?

I highly recommended that every one of you go and watch “The Social Network”. Else, stop using Facebook. No, serious. Have some respects to that Jewish Mark, will ya? At least he makes something worth billion. You?

Mark might not be creative because he’s not the first who invented social network, but he really is innovative — because he is the one who takes our social networking experience to the next level.

Say what? Another entry of Redmummy? WTF man, you’ve already reviewed her whatt? You got a crush on her meh? You got fetish for somebody’s wife meh? *I can hear some of you screaming something along this line*

No, no. I am just trying my luck in entering her contest. This is my first time I bother myself with blog competition, so gimme a break will ya? She offers a Hugo Boss perfume as the grand prize and I am just bored and need some reason to update my own blog. And no, please don’t break my lovely girlfriend’s heart by saying I got some weird fetish for married older woman. I am so in love with my current girlfriend and I am very happy with our relationship (p/s: kalau menang barang-barang pompuan nanti I bagi u ye sayang? ).

So the blog entry is supposed to comment or review on her blog and not herself. On the another entry I openly said that I am impressed on her success, so I guess that’s disqualified because I talked about her as a person. Let’s talk about her blog as a..website. Plus, I am an IT technical person. Commenting on blogs and websites are as easy as eating peanut.

Here’s my constructive feedbacks on Redmummy.com as a website. Let’s start with the negative things first (no hard feelings eh kipas-susah-mati Kak Red ):

1. The blog is goddamn slow to be load.
2. Too many ads, widgets, and other things cluttering the sidebar and not pleasing to the eyes.
3. Comments are enabled on almost every pages, even when it is not necessary.
4. WordPress backend system is not updated.
5. Due to #2, the navigation of the overall sites is moderate (not easy; not so hard; but still some learning curve needed).
6. WTF with the two icons at the bottom (left and right) of the screen?

I am going to elaborate more on the negativity of the website from the IT technical guy point of view (aka geek eyes), which in return might make you feels like I am sabotaging her websites or something. NO. This is for her improvement that can be done. Yes, I will still mention the good bits below, because credit needs to be given where credit is due.

Alright, here’s the positive things:

1. Consistent writing have ensured steady and rising traffic.
2. Redmummy is like a cult for the women now. Topic covered is highly related to the general community.
3. WordPress are being utilized properly; things like Sticky posts, pages, nested comments etc are being used.
4. Contents are writen in funny and light mood. Very nice and suitable for light reading.
5. Interactions between the writer with readers are high. Most comments are being replied.
6. Integrations with Facebook and Twitter are sufficient.

I believe the positive points are more on Kak Red as a person and it plays an important part on making her blog a success. I won’t comment much on her positive points then, because it’s already written in the previous post. Belen aa sket, 1 entry positif-positif, 1 entry kutuk-kutuk skettt..

Elaboration: Negative #1.

Aiyoh ashterix (ini laki Kak Red tu haaa, admin Redmummy), why la so slow to load the web? I used a Maxis broadband and the time taken to get it fully loaded is nearly two minutes – what’s with all the pictures, backgrounds and everything also in image format. Tak masuk ads atau widget loading time lagi tu!

Using WordPress, I would recommend that you explore the cache plugin or something to reduce the load time. Seriously, check your website on Alexa for the loading time. I check it just now and here’s the screenshot.

Very slow meh! Haiyooooooo!!! You really need to plan for web expansion – maybe bandwidth need to be increased or you need to have your own dedicated server to host Redmummy.com?

This brings me to the second point.

Elaboration: Negative #2, #3, #5 and #6.

I’ve got to say this – there’s too many ads and the arrangement is not good. First time users who read this blog can easily be confused or lost their way navigating the blogs. Since Redmummy.com is a popular site, I’ve got to compare it to similar websites – and I thought JustKhai.com is more or less in the same category of entertainment websites.

But the ads, widgets, and sidebar arrangement in JustKhai.com is much more.. pleasing to the eyes, so to speak.

And what’s with the comments on every pages? I think on the Red Index page (the archive page) or the About Red / Red on Media, no need to enable the comment box lor! You’re using WordPress you can disable it lorr~ *facepalm*

The function of pages are to enable separation of information based on the category you set. Usually, not all pages need to have comment boxes. For the archive page or “About Me” page, usually people don’t put the comment boxes because usually not many people commenting on that. Then why lor not disable it? It just looks… unprofessional in some way.

That clutters of ads and widgets and boxes where it is not needed lead to the explanation of reason #5 – it doesn’t give readers a pleasant experience surfing it. Sure, your contents and your writing have attracted your own cults, but for those who are new to your website, it is not easy.

You called an archive page as Index page. In web programming, index page is usually the home page. Oh well, the point here is – it takes time to be familiar with Redmummy.com.

And yes, I am annoyed with those two boxes at the bottom of the page – the Twitter and Facebook icon as well as the GBM icon. If I am surfing at the office (where my monitor resolution is bigger), it doesn’t bother the eyes – but try to view it in 1024 x 768 resolution. Kacau siot nak baca entry, tibe tibe ada kotak bergantung-gantung kat bawah tu haaa!

Elaboration: Negative #4.

I don’t want to talk about family security or the risk involved in exposing your family to the world. I guess Kak Red has already taken enough counter-measure to ensure her family’s safety while being able to talk about them in her blog. But from the web security point of view, I don’t think she has taken enough measure.

People can easily get her WordPress version by registering to the WordPress (even though you don’t need to register to comment the entries).

People can easily see that her WordPress are not being updated as of recent.

People can easily finds vulnerability and then try to hack the blog.

Kak Red, jaga-jaga weiihh. WordPress 2.9 tu da lama tuuuu.

Call me paranoid. After all, who wants to hack a blog? Well, people are unpredictable. I have been hacked once. Just for the sake of learning or for fun, I am not sure. But the risk is always there. Why laaa you don’t upgrade your WordPress? Kang menanges tengok blog tu kena hack kang. Sedangkan blog saya yang takde orang baca ni pun pernah kena hack Kak Red oi!

Alright, I don’t wish you to puke reading this post. For the good thing, I’ve already mentioned it in the previous post. The actors are Caucasian while the characters are supposed to be Oriental Japanese. Sean Ferris as Kyo Kusanagi is really terrible. Kyo Kusanagi supposed to have a long hair belah tengah with headband of the sun goddamnit!  And David Leitch as Terry Bogard? WORTHLESS!

The storyline is nothing to be proud of as well. Go into other dimension, fight fight fight, and then come the Hollywood delusion – the hero suddenly got much power and kill the villain. Pfft!

The villain Rugal, Vice and Mature also looks like shit. Found this on the net:

Rating: 1/10. Totally worthless. I watched this movie without reading any review or spoiler just to see if it has any good point as salvation. But — it’s nothing at all. The only 1 point I give is only for the enactment of fire and purple lightning streak from Iori Yagami’s character. Even that is rarely seen. WTF!

No, it’s not that scary. Yes, it supposed to be a horror/thriller movie. Yes, it is directed by M Night Shyamalan. No, it’s not the best masterpiece of Night even though you can get some good screams.

Is it good? So-so. Personally I hate the ending. But the storyline develops quite good and you can manage to get some good screams in the first hour. And copying the winning formula of “Phone Booth” (anyone remember this movie where the story revolves around a phone booth?) and “Final Destination”, I can say it is a good B-rated movie.

Oh what’s the story about? The story played on the event where the devil himself comes down to earth to punish the bad people. Easy storyline of peoples getting killed by the devil in a lift, yet the people don’t know who is the devil.

Would I recommend this movie? Yeah if you have nothing else to do. Don’t put any hopes at all while watching this movie. That way, you can get a good scream.

P/s: Movie review is a good way to start writing again after a long holiday. No, no, I am still vacationing.

It’s not like there’s any work to do either. *sigh* (yeah yeah.. I always argue with my boss, why can’t we just work from home for the same thing..)

So I’m deadly bored. Luckily I bring this novel; managed to finish it and I still have like.. 4 hours to spend?? :’( So here goes some review about the finished book.

If previously I was obsessed with books from Dean Koontz, Dan Brown, or Agatha Christie, I’ve found another good author to be read. This is not the first Jodi Picoult books that I’ve read, in fact, this one is her fourth novels that I’ve devoured. I’ve read Mercy, Nineteen Minutes and Change of Hearts.

Bought this one online from TheBooksLover, courtesy of Dils promotion for the online bookshop (ye dils, aku click dari banner kau. Leh claim kat kau tak? HA HA). The blogshop owner is nice, packaging is good (siap dia balut macam hantar hadiah lagi!), book looks new, price is low. So oklah! No further comment required.

Thing that I like about Jodi Picoult’s novel is her mind-provoking statement. In The Pact, the questions rings something like this..

Do you really know your children?

The Harte and the Golds are neighbours; both have children – a boy and a girl, who grew up together, a long life friend, and in their teenage time, they becomes lover. Everything looks fine. She’s happy, he’s happy, everyone’s happy. Until one night, both families got a phone call from hospital.

The daughter of Golds, named Emily – shot dead. By his boyfriend, Chris Harte.

He claims it was a suicide pact between both of them. He claims Emily is suicidal, and ask for his help. He claims, he’s going to kill himself too, only that the police arrive first and he’s fainted when Emily was killed.

So the question struck both families. Why? What happened? Is it Chris who killed Emily? Or did Emily killed herself?

And that’s when everything is being revealed.. slowly.. twisted.. and gripping.

Jodi Picoult is known to start her novels quite slow, and too much attention in details for description. But once the storyline getting hotter, you can’t just let the books go. In The Pact, she touched primarily on:

• Parental issue – do we really pay attention to the child / teen? Or are we assuming that they’re fine? Or.. are we assuming they’re just going a phase?
• Incestuous relationships – when a girl and a boy have been close since they’re small, does it feels like a brother and sister, and the relationship can turn like.. incest? (Is that why Emily killed herself? )
• Suicidal tendencies – how can we identify whether a teen is suicidal? Why do they want to kill themselves? What is the psychology behind these kids head?
• Freedom of life – when your life turns 360 degree upside-down, e.g you’re suddenly in jail. What happened? Is jail the worst place ever?

Its ending is twisted, albeit guessable. This book is suitable for light reading, or when you’re boring and don’t want to think too much, but at the same time it can touch your emotions deeply.

But.

Readers need to be old enough to understand about the parental parts.Even though the words are simple and not too bombastic, the explanation and the moods between adults and teens – and a little sex scene, might be a bit confusing (and not suitable for underage children).

Shit. Does that mean I’m too old now?
