Natasha Hudson – pic taken from: http://thebookaholic.blogspot.com

As usual, I was blog hopping because of the boredom that strikes. I found out about this so-called “plagiarism” from Dils blog. As usual, I gotta admit Dils exposure and post really intriguing. “Tah mana mana ceruk tenet tah dia surf.. sampai news camni pun dia tau..

I found it as tickling and ironic. Here’s the story: Natasha Hudson – as the pic above (quite hot little lady, agree boys?) is a writer who writes children books and poems, but she is currently being strike as a plagiarist , who plagiarize her Malay poems from English poem – she only translates it, directly.

Check some of her poems and the comparison:

Kek Coklat by Natasha Hudson

Saya mahu satu kehidupan,
Kamu mahu sesuatu yang lain,
Kita tidak dapat makan kek coklat,
Jadi kita makan sesama diri.
————————————————
‘Cake’ written by Roger McGough

i wanted one life
you wanted another
we couldn’t have our cake
so we ate each other.

What a direct translation. I gotta admit it’s hilarious. And it becomes more hilarious when I read the comments from fellow Bloggers. See below (taken from here):

1) Sufian said…
It’s not direct translation. So, no, not plagiarism. Inspired by, maybe.
Dan dia sangat hangat. Siapa harus dipercayai?

2)kimster said…

sufian:
it’s too obvious and too similar, so the whole “not-direct-translation” argument doesn’t wash lah.
and to think that NH got away with it. Sheesh.

3)Sufian said…
Too similar Kimster?
The ‘Cake line’ in English and the ‘coklat kek’ line in Malay is very different…

And what about,
“you wanted another” and “kamu mahu sesuatu yang lain”?

p.s. personally I think McGough’s poem is bo-ring.

There’s more but I got tired copy-pasting. Go read here and you’ll get the idea why I’m smirking. It’s always fun to see how other people react to certain situation, you know.. tongue Btw, I think what makes this issue so fucking hot and big is because the writer herself didn’t admit. I think if she’s admit, it won’t create such a turbulence. Why, you ask?

Take this example: do you know that old;font-style:italic;">Hujan – Lonely Soldier Boy (Mospeada) is a direct translation from a Japanese anime theme song, old;font-style:italic;">Genesis Climber Mospeada? Now why it doesn’t create such a turbulence compared to Natasha Hudson issue?

Simple answer: because old;">Hujan did admit that they do direct translation of the song. (FYI, Mospeada is actually the title of the anime – derived from Military Operation Soldier Protect Emergency Aviation Dive Auto. Click here for its Wikipedia)

My little sister did ask what is the meaning of Mospeada, and I was stunned – unknown of the answers, before I did googling for its lyric. That’s when I know they did a direct translation of it.

Watch these videos of Hujan as well as the real Mospeada theme. Now you decide, whether its a plagiarism in creativity. LOL.

Me, Chunna, Mia, and Wan at 8TV Birthday Concert. Whee!
Wee hee! Had a blast going to the 8TV concert with Chunna, Wan and Mia. I am still tired and was sweating like a pig after the concert due to the dance and jump and the crazy temperature in there. This concert was free and held at Central Park, OU (quite a small place) but it still one hell of a good one!

It is said that 22,000 people was there! OMG.

The concert start with Pop Shuvit’s “FreakShow” and “Mara Bahaya”, so that’s quite good for a warm up jump session. Even though I thought that the distortion of their guitar was a bit off, I still enjoyed it – can jump and sing along.

Then comes “Meet Uncle Hussain” – with their songs “Kerjalah” and “Laguku Untukmu”, Bittersweet, and Gerhana Ska Cinta. Here’s where the fanatics gone wild. Pushing, cramping, bodysurfing, moshpitting. I don’t mind if you want to moshpit there in the middle of the crowd but please, you don’t have to push people around when you got such a big circle space in front of you!

It reminds me to the way Jakas dance.. gila makan space!

And this moshpitting really goes wild up to the extent they push people around even on slow song. Geez. This is where I really feel uncomfortable – I think its just inappropriate for a slow song to be moshpitting. Why don’t just wave your hands, or even better, with a lighter?

And I was thinking that the crowd really comes only for “Hujan”, and was spitting on other artists. The crowd was really uncool when they “boo” on Suki (One In a Million winner) and even worst – they taunt her with “Hey Hey Fuck You!” when she’s singing Avril’s Girlfriend. I don’t know why actually, but for me, even though you’re not her fans, why don’t just listen to it? *sigh*

It affects Suki in a way that her singing is off tune afterwards. The effects of the majority I guess. That’s the fanaticism in music. Me as the universal music listener just can’t accept that. It’s okay to have preferences, likes or dislikes, but at least you don’t have to put people down in public like that! It was not an underground concert only, peeps!

Anyway, other than that, all the performances were cool and the crowd were great. We got Jaclyn Victor’s great voices on “No One”, Che`Nelle hot dancing (she’s goddamn hot! whoo!), Faizal Tahir Rock and Roll, and Hujan (no need to say it, people were coming for them. Their performance was last, and that was when everybody’s become possessed. Me too! :P)

And guess what, Faizal Tahir was stripping at that concert! OMG. It started with his jacket (we’re still cool with that), his t-shirt (oookaayy….), his singlet (errr… he got “S” symbol on his chest?), and last, his belt (gasp!). Luckily the songs end there, or else.. *sweat*

We think the S symbol is not to say that he’s the Malaysia’s Superman, but more to Malaysia’s Stripper! LOL. Oh and only Wan was excited with that. Double LOL!!

P/s: I was more excited with Che`Nelle’s teasing dance and sing. Hee!
