Have you ever thought of editing your mobile phone book?

How long has you been using a mobile phone? For me, it was since I was in my lower secondary school – Form 3, to be exact; somewhere in 2000. It was a very old Nokia model, even older than 3310 and I really can’t recall what’s the model number  (believe me, I can kill a dog if I throw my first handphone). It costs me RM500 back then; and it was a second hand purchase.

And how many times have you changed numbers? For me, only two times. My first number was from Celcom mobile provider – but that only lasts for two years before I decided to change to Maxis mobile provider. Reason for changing? I was with my first girlfriend; and we decided to have numbers that’s very close; mine ended in 86, and she’s 87.

Silly. She doesn’t even retain that number anymore now..

Here comes the interesting stuff; how many contact numbers do you have now in your phone book?

For me, it was over 500! I knew it because previously, when I changed my phone to a new one, I noticed that I had maximize my SIM card memory already!

Crazy, I know. And I know I only use 5% or less from the numbers regularly at one time. This is where the fun history part comes in.

How do you save your contact names and numbers, previously? Do you even realize you have certain system to save it? Does the system changed over time?

Due to the reason I had used my mobile since I was in my teen times; my phone book was a mess! Believe me, I have been saving the numbers like below:

• BLaSeRjAgDwAfFeN – UtP
• GaJoUh – UtP
• CoOkIeS RO UtP

And so and so..

I even use all the special characters! E with a mark above it. A with a small circle above it. E with double dot on top of it. C with a tail. Underscore. Semicolon. Aposthrope. Double aposthrope. Comma. Dot. Minus sign.

LOL

Seriously, it was so MySpace I can’t typed it here with this normal keyboard! Hail the long lost system of Nokia with its special characters that’s so fuckin easy to key in!

That’s one thing. How about people with common or similar names? How do you save their names?

In my case, I always use the place where I met them. That’s why I have Zu UTP, Zu IS, Zu MRSM. But it doesn’t really effective because sometimes in the midst of a rush, I did called the wrong Zu, Wan, Abu or Ina!

So there comes the system of adjectives.

• Zu hitam (“the black zu”
• Zu putih (“the white zu”
• Zu kelabu asap (“the smoke grey zu”
• Zu panjang (“the long zu”
• Zu pendek (“the short zu”

LOL again.

Not to mention addition/usage of online virtual name they used…

• Chunna Yelloue UTP
• Intan Megikari UTP
• Unta Yoda UTP (gosh! double nickname!)
• SnUbNoSsE UtP (put some dots and marks on some O and E here!)
• MaNgiFeRa DuEnG uTp
• DiLa ElArA WiTheRThoRnE SpaMmeRs UtP (ZOMG! )

Okay. Previous old model have character limitation for their phone book. Can’t really remember how many, 25 maybe? So if you’re like me, and use all these kind of addition to the name just to recognize which one is who, how do you shorten up the name?

In my case, that’s where the aphostrophe and dot comes in..

• Instead of Nurul Nadiah – UTP, it becomes N”NaDiaH-UtP
• Instead of Nur Hidayatul Hikmee, it becomes N”H”HikMeE

Haha. This is all getting funnier, isn’t it? But here’s the part that I hate. When you change your mobile to a newer model, the system is never the same. Your phone book will look like a very goddamn messy hairy pussy that haven’t been shaved for a while!

This happened to me when I changed from Nokia to Sony Ericsson. The SE phone, despite it’s so-fucking-cool-music-and-picture features, their phone book can’t read special characters. In the end, after the special characters, all the letters doesn’t showed up!

• Instead of Philipp Feer – IBM, it showed up as Philipp Feer – I.
• Instead of Yong – UTP, it showed up as Yong -U.

Gah!

Being “rearrange”, seeing something that doesn’t have a proper system is a sore in the eyes. I like my blog post justified. I like my essay to be aligned. I like my programming code curly bracket (the “{“.. ) to have the same number of space for each nested block.

So I edit it just now. Delete the number I  rarely used (and I think I will never called them again), delete the number that I suspect have changed (like some of my high school friends who study overseas for more than 5 years), edit the name to be more readable (no more big and small letters).

It took me 2 friggin hours! But, apart from the hard work of editing, what do you think happens at the same time?

Eh? Who is he? Oh shit.. she’s married already. Hmm.. what happened to her? Damn.. I used to go “mamak”ing with him. Ooohh.. she used to have a nice pair of boobs.. wonder who’s got it.. Hee~ she was my lecturer that I have a crush on.. I used to date with her.. Oh my.. she rejected me previously.. Eh? I dumped her! Ooh..this was my high school crush.. I stole her number.. but never contacted her. Oh damn I fight with her over a small thing.. What? I used to call him with that name? What? I used to call him with his real first name?

LOL.

In the end, I feel very tired with it and really can use some sleep after I posted this in the blog. What a nice way to cure my insomnia..
